[Johannesburg, South Africa – 18 August 2021] South Africa-focused platinum developer, Nkwe Platinum, and the Zijin Mining Group, a multinational mining group, have partnered with SANY Southern Africa in providing an entry-level excavator training program for six women from their mining communities.
During the week-long program, the six trainees gained both theoretical knowledge and hands-on operation experience in lectures and practice classes.
“Nkwe Platinum and the Zijin Mining Group believe that the inclusion of women in the mining sector contributes significantly to its communities’ sustainable development and long-term economic growth. We recognize the potential that women can unlock for successful mining operations and understand that their skills development forms a vital foundation for a more productive community,” said Mr. Zhiyu Fan, Managing Director and CEO of Nkwe Platinum Limited.
“We are pleased to embark on this training program in partnership with Nkwe Platinum and the Zijin Mining Group,” says Samuel Zhang, General Manager of SANY Southern Africa.
“Women are severely under-represented in the mining industry. We hope that by empowering women with these well-designed excavator training sessions, local women, especially those from rural areas, will gain a more competitive edge to advance in this sector. They have done much better than I expected. Next, we are going to replace the coach excavator with a brand new one, in order to further improve the safety and efficiency of the training. On average, the common practice is one trainer for ten trainees, yet in our case it is two trainers for six trainees,” adds Zhang.
Beyond market expansion, SANY, through its charitable arm SANY Foundation, has set out to empower underprivileged people around the world by offering funds, education and, such as in this case, employment assistance. We believe that everyone, no matter where he or she is from, deserves a life of prosperity, dignity and opportunity.
